Deep Soil Mixing (DSM)

Overview:

Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) is a specialised ground improvement process that strengthens weak or compressible soils by mechanically blending in-situ material with a cementitious binder.

Using a 45-tonne SR-40 piling rig, the mixing tool rotates while injecting binder (typically cement) to form soil-cement columns that significantly improve strength, stiffness, and stability. DSM can be carried out to depths of up to 19 metres, producing column diameters between 800 mm and 1.0 metre. The technique delivers major benefits including reduced spoil generation, cost-effectiveness, and the flexibility to form continuous walls or column grids. It is widely applied in earth retention systems, general ground improvement, groundwater and permeation control, hydraulic cut-off walls, and for seismic strengthening or liquefaction mitigation.
